We work with young single mothers ages 14 to 24 (and some as young as 12) and their children to empower them, help them set goals and reach them, mentor them, and walk alongside them in healing and growth. We provide crisis care and service referrals for basic needs. We are the only agency in Lexington that serves this population in this way. With just 5 employees (3 of which are part-time) we serve over 185 young single mothers every year.

Revive Nights: Two Thursday nights per month, we provide transportation, a hot meal, and childcare for our program. Young single mothers learn life-skills and develop supportive relationships with one another. Our 2-hour program consists of a meal, games and crafts, guest speakers, and Support groups.

Dare To Dream Program/Case Management: We meet monthly with our young single moms and their children in their homes. Moms complete goal setting sessions and share struggles and triumphs in these one-on-one meetings. Following the meetings, we are able to connect them with needed resources to remove barriers to success.

Refine Mentor Program: Our Mentors build an established one-on-one mentor relationship with a Step By Step mom providing individual support and encouragement.

Awana Program: This year we launched a leadership and discipleship program just for our children. They are earning badges, patches, and incentives for their participation.

Step Into Reading: We launched our new literacy program this year. Each child receives a free book each month and young single mothers are being taught tips to engage literacy techniques with their children. Each family turns in a monthly reading log.

Prepare and serve a meal: Volunteer with your church or civic group on one of our program nights by providing and serving a meal for our moms and their children.

Sponsor a program night incentive: Collect and donate items moms can earn by participating in our program.

Sponsor a Refine mentor/mentee activity night: Share your talent and interests with our moms and mentors! Host a group of moms and their mentors in a fun group activity such as crafts, ice cream party, game night.

Hold a baby, teach our older children, drive a van, become a Mentor or a Support Group Leader, work on our hospitality Team, or join the Board. There are plenty of ways to serve at SBS.
