The GoodGiving Challenge is an online giving campaign designed to engage the entire community and to make charitable giving easy and fun. Now in its seventh year, the Challenge is a partnership between Blue Grass Community Foundation and Smiley Pete Publishing who believe in the power of collective giving. This year,  over 100 amazing nonprofits in the Challenge provide services that we rely on every day and we invite you to help strengthen and sustain the important work they do.

Monetary donations are the most direct way to help a nonprofit make an impact: Donations allow nonprofits to allocate funds where they are most needed. The GoodGiving Challenge is focused on helping participating nonprofits raise funds that are critical to supporting their work.

Donor FAQs

What payment methods are accepted? 

Credit and debit cards including Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. eChecks are also accepted. 

Will I receive a receipt for my donation?

Yes, you will receive an electronic tax receipt with a list of each organization you gave to via the email address you provide. Electronic tax receipts have been approved by the Kentucky Department of Revenue to be used for Kentucky state tax credit purposes.

What if I'm having trouble making a donation? 

If your credit/debit card was declined, FIRST contact your credit/debit card provider or bank to obtain the decline reason. Please be ready to provide the full name on your card, donation amount you are trying to make, and the last four digits of your credit card. If you have contacted your card provider or bank and have still not determined the issue, contact Blue Grass Community Foundation for additional assistance at 859-225-3343. Common errors are incorrect zip code, incorrect address, insufficient funds.

How will the donations be reported on my credit card statement?

Donations will show on your credit card statement as being made to the Blue Grass Community Foundation. All donations will be transferred to the participating organization at the end of each processing period. Please be sure to use your e-receipt as a record of which organization(s) and donation amount(s) you made for tax purposes. If you have a donor login on, you can also locate detailed donation information here. 

Are there any fees for donating via credit card or electronic check (eCheck)?

For donations processed by credit card, the platform has a combined 5.1 percent fee per donation.

However, donors may elect to "OPT IN" to help cover fees during checkout in order to lessen the fees paid by the nonprofits. By selecting YES to cover the fees, your donation will be increased by 5.1% to help cover the fees (2.1% credit card processing fee and 3.0% for technology/security and program costs). This helps more money go directly to the nonprofit. If you elect to pay by electronic check, your donation would still be increased by 5.1%, but the 2.1% that would normally go to the credit card processing company will actually go to the nonprofit instead.

Blue Grass Community Foundation is a 501c3 and does not profit from the GoodGiving Challenge.

How do I know if a nonprofit organization on is valid?

The GoodGiving Challenge does verify if an organization is a registered 501c3 organization with the IRS and each organization is required to fill out detailed information on our nonprofit database,  However, it is up to each individual to carry out their own 'due diligence' prior to giving a donation to determine if the organization meets their own guidelines. There are many tools available to help you determine this. These are just a few: GuideStar, Charity Navigator, BBB Wise Giving Alliance, Charity Watch.  

In addition, the GoodGiving Challenge is operated in full compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations, and it will not violate or infringe the rights of others. We reserve the right to delete a nonprofit's profile from the website, without notice and to the extent required by law, if we find any material that is offensive or claims to violate or infringe upon the intellectual property rights of others. 

Why should I give through the GoodGiving Challenge website versus directly to an organization?

The GoodGiving Challenge allows nonprofits to have the opportunity to compete for cash and endowment prizes made possible by Blue Grass Community Foundation and supportive donors.

Some of the prizes are based on total amount raised within a particular category. Categories can be based on annual revenue size, amount of unique donors or location. Nonprofits can also win match prizes. For a donation to count towards the total amount raised it must be made through the website in the allotted time during the Challenge.

How do I know if my donation is tax deductible?

To determine if a donation or portion of a donation is tax deductible, you will need to contact the nonprofit organization and/or consult with a tax advisor.

Why can't I find a specific nonprofit?

Try a few different words or phrases in the search bar. Avoid using acronyms if you know part of their full name. (Please note - your organization of choice may not be participating this year.) 

Is my payment information safe and secure?

Yes, the servers used to process your information are very secure and reliable. All transactions are made through an encrypted connection. Debit/credit card and eCheck transactions are secure, backed by a PCI Level 1 secure service provider certification. 

What does the GoodGiving Challenge do with donor information?

The GoodGiving Challenge does not share or sell donor information to any other organization or third party, but does reserve the right to communicate with donors for the purpose of user surveys, newsletters, information and general education about philanthropy. 

Can I make an anonymous donation?

Yes, when donors are ready to check out they may elect to be Anonymous (no donor contact information will be provided to the organization, only a dollar amount).

Can I make a gift "In Honor Of" or "In Memory Of" someone?

Yes, donors will have the option to make a gift "In Honor Of" or "In Memory Of" during checkout in the Comments section.

How do I fix a mistake on a donation?

To fix a mistake on a donation, please contact Blue Grass Community Foundation at 859-225-3343. Support staff will assist with answering questions as quickly as possible. 

How do I get a receipt if I can't locate mine?

When you donate online, an e-receipt will automatically be generated from the GoodGiving Challenge and emailed to the email address you have provided. If you can't find your e-receipt, please be sure to check your spam filter. As a donor, you have the option to create a GoodGiving Challenge donor account to track your donations.  If you created a GoodGiving Challenge donor account, please log in and view your account to print a receipt. If you do not have a GoodGiving Challenge donor account and are unable to locate your receipt, please call Blue Grass community Foundation with your name, email address, the name of the organization you donated to and the amount you donated. The Blue Grass Community Foundation team will work to locate an e-receipt to send a duplicate to you as soon as possible.
